Crystal Ball

The image of a medium (normally an elderly female traveller) gazing into a crystal ball in a fairground tent is one that most of us will be familiar with. While this reality is rife with falsehoods and con-artists, the essence of the picture does hold some truth. If you can find a crystal ball - they are quite rare and expensive these days - this is the method to develop the ability to use the ball as a viewport onto the other world.

The Method

Place your ball on a small stand on a table in front of you. Ensure that the lights are dimmed. There is a practical reason for dimming the lights. The glass of the ball is necessarily highly reflective, and in bright light, all you will see in it are images of the world around you, and you will not manage to open a portal into the Other World. If you are using candlelight, try to place the candles behind yourself or other objects so that you do not get direct candlelight reflecting in the ball. Make sure you are comfortable and gaze into the ball.

Try not to think of anything in particular and just let the images form. When they do finally come, after you have let go of that controlling monkey mind, they may form in the ball itself or within your mind’s eye. Try to allow the images to just flow, describe them aloud if you have to for a second person, but do not try to interpret their meaning. Doing so will bring your analytic, intellectual mind into play and block the images from forming.
